Friday, December 04, 2009
The community service club of the British American School has been collecting books, and although they have collected over 500 books to date, they know there are more books out there and are hoping to collect 1000 books.
SOS Children's Villages is a private, non-political and non - denominational welfare organization. The goal of the SOS Children's Villages is to offer orphaned and abandoned children - regardless of race, nationality or creed - a permanent home and to prepare them for an independent life. SOS Children's Villages pursue these goals with fully qualified and highly motivated staff. SOS Children's Villages provide food and shelter, schooling, in a caring environment. The children in each village live in houses each consisting of four boys and four girls and have a 'mom' who lives with the children.
A parent at British American School of Charlotte recently visited the SOS Village in Jamaica. When she asked the orphans what they wanted most, they answered that they craved books more than anything else. Because of that, SOS Jamaica is building a library for the children who reside there. When the Community Service Club at the British American School of Charlotte heard this story, they decided to help stock the library by collecting books for the SOS Village library. So far they have collected over 500 books, and they know there are more books out there, every book makes a difference, they are appealing to all Charlotteans to look at your bookshelves and share a book by donating a book to the SOS Children's Village.
In addition to books, gifts of pens, pencils and other stationary are appreciated.
If you are interested in donating books, and for more information, please call 704-341-3236 or drop the books off at the British American School of Charlotte campus at 7000 Endhaven Lane Charlotte, NC 28277 between the hours of 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
