BSW celebrates its 10th anniversary
Tuesday, June 09, 2009

On Thursday, 21 May 2009, the British School of Washington community celebrated the school's 10th birthday. It was a wonderful day filled with fun, and entertainment, as well as giving participants the chance to look back and as well as look forward.
In the morning, primary classes completed activities based around the number 10, creating art work, poetry, models and music. After a party lunch, the school launched into a display of arts from the whole school. There were musical concerts, displays of art work, design and technology, drama and photographs from the past. In the afternoon, the main birthday celebration kicked off. The whole school community packed into the auditorium to celebrate. American and British national anthems were played, and Mr Williams read messages from past head teachers of the school, Mrs Stagg and Mrs Arwas.
The school was fortunate to have three former students who began at BSW on the very first day that it opened. Nik, Neha and Emily helped fill a time capsule which everyone in the school had contributed to. The capsule was bolted to the ceiling of the auditorium for students to see it for the next ten years.
After speeches from Mr Harding and Mrs Major, balloons with notes attached to them were let go into the sky. It was a favourite part of the day for many students. Cake and more music ended the event. It was a very exciting and memorable occasion, and the community is excited for the next ten years.
Since setting the balloons free, the school has received replies from over 165 miles away in Pennsylvania.
