BSW Years 4 to 7 trips to Shenandoah Camp
Over the last two weeks, British School of Washington students in Years 4 to 7 have spent time away completing exciting acitivites at the Sheridan School Mountain Campus in the Shenandoah Mountains. The students enjoyed sleeping in tents with their friends and completing a full range of activities including; canoeing, climbing, zip-lining, building fires, a giant swing, eating out, sleeping out and more.
The trips enhance the curriculum as a more challenging and dynamic way to allow the children to access the Outdoor and Adventurous aspect of the Physical Education curriculum whilst also building on Personal and social skills.
While visiting the Mountain Campus, students were challenged and inspired. They developed their sense of self, others and the natural environment. Through the energetic adventure program offered, students were able to access the curriculum and learn in a multi-sensory setting, and these experiences enhanced the children's learning both mentally and physically. Active participation in all aspects of the camp was encouraged and the aim wass to build confidence in the students so that they became integral members of a close knit and supportive community that respects individual needs and the natural environment.
