The School

The British American School of Charlotte provides British primary and middle school education for children of all nationalities. The school opened in September 2004 and is part of the British Schools of America, a division of The WCLS Group, a British company which also operates Fieldwork Education and Overseas Schools, Ltd. The British Schools of America also operates sister schools in Boston, Chicago, Houston and Washington DC.

At present, enrollment is accepted from children aged between 3 (Nursery) and 14 (Year 9/8th Grade). The maximum class size in any year is 20.

Mission Statement

The British American School of Charlotte prepares its students, physically, mentally, morally, spiritually and socially, in a safe and secure environment, to excel in tomorrow's world as life-long, critical thinkers who lead, challenge and develop the ever evolving and diverse global community.
It achieves its aim through:
  • Constructing a unique, challenging, individualized program of learning which engages students and leads to excellence.
  • Weaving an international strand through the life of the School.
  • Expecting the highest standards.
  • Nurturing an enquiry based learning environment that equips the students with the necessary cross-curricular skills to solve problems and critically analyse life's opportunities and challenges.
  • Providing a wealth of learning opportunities which seek to recognize, celebrate and develop the talent of every student.
  • Focusing overtly on personal values in order to develop confident, independent, responsible and empathetic members of the community.
  • Modeling respect for all individual and environment.

Teachers

Our teachers are recruited from the UK or international schools worldwide and are of the highest calibre. Every teacher is experienced in the delivery of the National Curriculum (England). Our teachers have a variety of academic specialist skills, which are fully utilised in the school setting.

All our teachers at the British American School of Charlotte take part in a continuous programme of In Service Training (INSET).

Teaching in the U.S. is an attractive prospect, not open to many British teachers, thus providing the British American School of Charlotte with a unique opportunity to select from an extensive source of professional teachers. This has enabled the British American School of Charlotte to be highly selective in offering teaching positions to the most experienced, highly qualified and committed of teachers.

Professional Associations

The British Schools of America are all members of the European Council of International Schools (ECIS) and are also members of the Council for International Schools in America. The British American School of Charlotte will also become a member of SAIS (Southern Association of Independent Schools) when the school is eligible to become an accredited institution.
