British School donates $7,500 to fund for widows and children

Dedham Times - March 2002

Next Monday, March 11, six months since the tragedies of Sept. 11, children of the British School of Boston, located in Dedham, will honor the victims of the tragedies of that day by donating the $7,500 they have raised to the Widows' and Children's Fund of the Uniformed Firefighter's Association (UFA) of Greater New York.

The Dedham Fire Department will accept the check on behalf of their New York brothers on Monday, March 11 at 11.30 a.m. at the school.

To raise funds, children sold calendars for the year 2002 depicting a watercolor of a fire truck painted by a five-year old student.

The calendar bears a quotation reading, "We will not forget, September 11th."

"All the children of the school (60 percent American, 40 percent other nationalities) wanted to do something to help. They all worked extremely hard as a team," said Mrs. Rebecca Forrester of Westwood, parent of two British School children and organizer of the fundraising effort.

"The British School was happy to take part in this fundraiser as an expression of the global effect this terrorist act has had," said Head Teacher Val Thomas-Peter.

The British School opened in Dedham in September 2000. It teaches children from all nationalities, providing a unique opportunity to educate children in a British style in an American community.
