ENGLISH A1
The English A1 course will aim to build on skills of literary appreciation and language use, developed in earlier years of English courses in the British School of Houston, especially in the immediately preceding English and English Literature GCSE courses.
The English A1 course aims to make the students confident and skilled readers of both fictional and non-fictional literary texts in all genres of drama, prose and poetry. Fundamentally, the course will aim to promote the enjoyment of literature and the understanding of the ways in which language enhances the quality and lives of individuals.
Study of Language A1 English works will also aim to make the students aware of the rich canon of literature originally written in English in a variety of cultures. At the same time, reference to a wide variety of works of world literature will seek to broaden students’ understanding of the international community and the ways in which common themes have been addressed in different places and at different times.
