Registration & Enrolment Procedure
To apply for a place for your child at the British School of Boston, please send the following:
- Completed Registration Form
- $150 Registration Fee [Click here to pay online]
- Applicant Statement
- Evaluation Form(s)
- Most recent school report (where appropriate)
Tour and Open House Information:
The first step in the registration process is to arrange for a visit to our campus. These visits are meant to give parents an overview of the school, and are an opportunity for them to ask questions, so we ask that children not accompany their parents on this visit.
Following is the date of the next Open House event:
The British School of Boston will host an Open House on Thursday, June 19th from 10.30am, until 12.30pm. Our Open Houses are for parents of Nursery through High School age students and begin with registration and light fare starting at 10.20am, followed by presentations from our Headmaster and Heads of Secondary and Primary Schools. Parent volunteers serve as guides as you tour our school and visit classrooms. The session ends with a Q & A and it is our hope that you will have learnt much about the British National Curriculum, seen our students in their classrooms and had many of your questions answered. This is traditionally a parent event and we suggest that children not attend an Open House, and instead, take advantage of joining us for a class visit should you decide to proceed to the registration of your child for admissions. Please ring 617.522.2261 to R.S.V.P. or email your R.S.V.P. to admissionsbsb@britishschool.org. We look forward to welcoming you!
Registration
There are two ways to register:
Once the Admissions Office receives your completed registration form and registration fee, your application will be processed. Unfortunately, incomplete applications will not be considered, except in cases where the Evaluation form(s) are not yet completed by the child's current school. We recognize that there may be some delay in requesting or receiving this information. All other parts of the application must be submitted for consideration.
Evaluation Visit
After registration, prospective pupils are invited to visit the school for a short visit. They will join their age appropriate class (see Academic Year Entry Chart) for anywhere from 1 hour for children entering Nursery (age 3 - children must be able to dress themselves and use the toilet facilities independently) to a full day for older children. In some circumstances a second visit may be required. If the visit is successful and there is space available in the child's year group, a place will be offered. If there is not a space in the child's year group, he/she will be placed on a waiting list until a place becomes available. If the school determines that we cannot meet the behavioural or educational needs of your child, a space will not be offered, and you will be provided a full and frank explanation of our reasons. Occasionally we receive an application from families who are abroad and are unable to visit. In these cases, a place may be offered to a child based only on previous school reports. These decisions are entirely at the discretion of the Headmaster, and are final.
Enrollment

Once a place has been offered to your child, a placement in the school is then secured only upon receipt of the enrolment fee (deposit) of $1,000 and a signed British School of Boston agreement, followed by the payment of a development levy and the tuition fees when due. In signing the school agreement, you, as parents/guardians, are acknowledging your commitment to paying the full tuition fee to the end of the first academic year for your child/children, as well as the deposit and development levy when due. The development levy is a one-time payment (per child) which is invoiced and paid upon entry to the school, and is used for capital and curriculum improvements/ investments. This fee is non-refundable.
The enrolment fee (deposit) is refundable only if the school withdraws the offer of a place. Once a child has been in the school for one academic year, the deposit is refundable only when one full term notice of leaving is given.
Applications are processed and places secured on a first come, first served basis. The British School of Boston reserves the right to exercise discretion on age entry criteria. If a child's date of birth is outside the age entry table, and there are what the parents consider to be valid reasons why a child should be placed in a year group above or below his or her age bracket, the Headmaster may, at his sole discretion after discussing the situation with the parents, agree to move a child.
Arrival
The Admissions Office will send out a package of information prior to your child's arrival in school. This package includes our school handbook, a school directory and a variety of forms to be filled out. Once a pupil is fully enrolled, further visits to the school may be appropriate to familiarise the child with the school routines before he/she begins to attend on a daily basis. The school conducts an Induction Day the week before classes begin in September, and families are invited to come and see their new classrooms, meet their teachers and purchase supplies such as book bags and hats.
If a child begins attending classes after the official start of the school year, the child will be 'paired' with others in his/her class to ensure a smooth start to school life.
