Upper School Behaviour Policy

Standards of behaviour at the British School of Houston are consistently high, with pupils well motivated, respectful, happy and able to achieve.  This overview sets out the procedures used to promote and reinforce positive behaviour.

The overview begins with a set of responsibilities that the students themselves formulated at the start of the year.  It then lists all the opportunities that teachers have to acknowledge the achievement, effort and cooperation of pupils.  Finally, it outlines a range of strategies that will be consistently applied by all staff in consultation with the Head of Upper School and the child’s parents, where appropriate, to positively reinforce good behaviour.

Student Responsibilities:

  1. Treat other pupils and adults with respect
  2. Listen when someone else is talking

Obtaining House points and Awards

House points

Pupils need to stick a recording sheet in their homework diaries.  It is the pupil’s responsibility to record and get staff to sign for the house point once it has been awarded.   Although we are still keeping a record of citizenship and achievement house points, there is no requirement to obtain a certain number of each to get the bronze, silver, gold or platinum awards.   Single house points are given for a good piece of work or a contribution to the school community.

The points required to receive awards are:

  • Bronze = 50
  • Silver = 100
  • Gold = 200
  • Platinum = 300
