Registration & Enrolment Procedure

To apply for a place for your child at the British American School of Charlotte, please send the following.

  • Completed Registration Form
  • $150 Registration Fee [Click here to pay online]
  • Applicant Statement
  • Evaluation Form(s)
  • Most recent school report (where appropriate)

Our registration procedure is as follows:

1. Visit and Tour

The first step in the registration process is to arrange for a visit to our campus. The visit is meant to give parents an overview of the school, and are an opportunity for them to ask questions, so we ask that children not accompany their parents on this visit.

2. Registration

The second step is to officially register your interest in achieving a placement for your child at the British American School of Charlotte.  Please click here for Required Forms.

Once the Admissions Office receives your completed registration form and registration fee, your application will be processed. Unfortunately, incomplete applications will not be considered, except in cases where the Evaluation form(s) are not yet completed by the child's current school. We recognise that there may be some delay in requesting or receiving this information. All other parts of the application must be submitted for consideration.

3. Child Visit

After registration, prospective pupils are invited to visit the school for a short visit. They will join their age appropriate class for a half or full day, depending on their age. They will have the opportunity to see whether or not they like the school, and the school has the opportunity to see whether or not the pupil is able to access the curriculum at a level in keeping with the children in the proposed class. On occasion a second visit may be required. Children who are not yet three, and are applying for our Nursery class may be offered a place prior to a visit to the school. All new Nursery children are invited to visit the school with their parents for a special Open House held in the May or June prior to starting. Following this visit the admissions staff will contact you. If the visit is successful, and there is place available, the child will be offered a place. If a place is not currently available the child will be placed on a waiting list until such time as a place becomes available. If we do not offer your child a place at the British American School of Charlotte we will seek to provide a full and frank explanation of the reasons. On occasion it is not possible for a child re locating from abroad to visit the school. In these circumstances the child may be offered a place on the basis of the school reports alone. As with all final admissions decisions, this is entirely at the discretion of the Head.

4. Enrollment Procedure

When your child is offered a place at the British American School of Charlotte you will be required to pay a $1000 deposit and to sign the school agreement to hold the place. In signing the school agreement you acknowledge your commitment to paying the full tuition for the first academic year and the development levy when due, even in the unlikely event that your circumstances change and your child does not attend the school. Once a child has been in school for one academic year, the deposit is refundable on leaving, as long as we receive a full term's notice of leaving in writing. For example, if a child will not be returning to school for the autumn term, notice must be received before the beginning of the summer term. Written notice can be submitted by letter or using the Withdrawl Form.

Notice of Non-Discrimination Policy

The British American School of Charlotte reaffirms its policy to admit pupils on a non discriminatory basis, without regard to race, colour, sex, religion or national origin.

5. Arrival

The admissions office will send out a package of information prior to your child's arrival in school. This includes our school handbook, a pupil directory and a variety of forms to be completed. An Induction Day is held during the week before the start of the academic year. We invite all children, and their parents, to come and meet their new teacher and familiarize themselves with the school in general and their classroom in particular. The staff and existing pupils are keen to welcome our new families and help make your transition as smooth as possible. It is our experience that children generally settle into the school very quickly and easily. We do, however, encourage you to let us know if you have any questions or if there is anything more that we can do to help.

If a child begins attending classes after the official start of the school year, the child will be 'paired' with others in his/her class to ensure a smooth start to school life.
