Getting Connected: For your Child

Starting a new school can be daunting but at the British School of Houston any first day nerves are quickly forgotten. Because all our children are internationally mobile, great preparation and thought is given to making your child feel comfortable and secure in their new environment.

  • Each new child is assigned a buddy who will befriend your child and guide them through the early days.
  • Welcome Baskets are located in all Lower and Middle School classrooms so new pupils can find out their new daily routine and where everything is kept quickly.
  • Open Door access is available to your child's teacher to discuss the settling in process. This can quickly reassure and advise, and is formalized in the "Settling in Report" distributed after the first half term.
  • Children are positively encouraged and motivated through personal and shared reward schemes. Learning is therefore fun and challenging.
  • Encourage your child to sign up for one of the many extra-curricular clubs that run after school on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights - a great way of meeting new friends.
  • See you class representative about how to go about organizing "Play Dates" or study sessions with other children in your child's class.
