Houston Roads Explained

  • HOV Lanes (High Occupancy Vehicle Lanes) are the quickest way to get around at peak times. You must have two or more (at times three or more) in the car. They flow towards Downtown in the morning and away from there in the evening.
  • 610 - the Inner Loop around Downtown and the central living areas.
  • Beltway 8 - the West Sam Houston Toll Way, Parkway or the Outer Loop. Depending on the direction you are traveling you pay on entrance or exit. You can pay cash, but it is advisable to get an EZ tag (www.hctra.com) if you plan to use this route often.
  • Highway 6/FM 1960 - another loop further out on the west side of Houston (unfinished at east side).
  • 290 - Freeway running northwest from Houston to Austin.
  • I10 - Katy Freeway, running east to west through Houston (and Texas State).
  • I45 - Freeway running north to south from Galveston to Dallas.
  • 59 - Freeway running south west from Houston to Corpus Christi.
  • 288 - Freeway running SSW from Downtown.
  • Hardy Toll Road - Toll Road from Downtown heading north (Good for George Bush International Airport). Cash or EZ tag required.
  • West Park Toll Road (not shown on our map) - runs from Downtown in a southwesterly direction. Good for reaching some areas of Katy and Sugar Land. EZ tag only.

Traveling to and from School

The school can be reached from each area by various routes (freeways/side roads and high occupancy vehicle lanes (HOV)). Connections Team members can indicate a number of options, but for detailed directions please use an official map such as the Houston Key Map or try online assistance such as that offered by www.mapquest.com. Commute times are dependent on traffic and conditions. In all areas car pooling is a possibility so please ask the Connections Team or Heather Holmes, the school's Communication Coordinator for help with this.
