Cultural Education Grant awarded from Arts & Science Council
The focus of the learning will be the Scottish Colonial Settlement of the Carolinas. The students will experience writing and reading Scottish poetry, participating in a Scottish song and dance performance amongst other highlights. So ready your kilts and sporrans! The students will participate in workshops to include: Scottish Bagpipe Band, History of Scottish Clans and Heraldry (Coat of Arms), Scottish Poetry Writing, Scottish Dance Workshops - Country and Highland Dancing, Scottish Tartan Creation Workshop- Creation of the British American School of Charlotte tartan, Field Trip to the Historic Rural Hill - Scottish Heritage Center where they will learn the history of Davidson Family and tour the property with Costumed Interpreters,visit a Pioneer Cabin, the farm animals and 19th century schoolhouse as well as experience a cooking demonstration.
